Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

A collection complete in eighteen volumes of the works of Charles Dickens, the first edition thus to feature five hundred plates by Harry Furniss, drawn expressly for this edition, as well as a full array of the illustrations used in all major editions. In the original publisher's uniform full cloth binding. The Testimonial edition with all gilt top edges.

Featuring a hand-crafted custom oak bookcase specially made for this set, vanishingly scarce on the market. Edited by J. A. Hammerton. 

Published by the Educational Book Company in 1910 in anticipation of Dicken's centenary, the set was quickly circulated and read in schools, clubs and libraries.

Condition

In the original publisher's uniform full cloth bindings with gilt to the top edge. Externally very smart with only minor shelf wear and bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Minor mark to the rear board of vol. 3 and 15. Minor staining mark to the bottom edge of vol. 9, not affecting the internals. With a minor closed tear to the spine of vol. 13. Stamp tribute to Dickens to the rear pastedown of each volume. Hinges slightly strained, holding firm. The volume firmly bound. Odd light spotting to the odd leaf, otherwise the pages are generally bright and clean. Illustrated with five hundred special plates by Harry Furniss and other illustrations in text. Collated, complete.
