1910 A History of Gardening in England
What Our Customers Say...
Early Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding
From celebrated horticulturist and writer Alicia Amherst, writing under the pen-name of Mrs Evelyn Cecil, this history of gardening was a huge and immediate success upon publication. Prior to this work, gardening books had all been practical manuals and Amherst was the first to take a historical look at horticulture, the work becoming an authoritative guide still used by historians. Updated third edition. With monochrome photographic throughout. An explorer and advocate of women horticulturists, Alicia Amherst remains celebrated for her contribution to the field with 'A History of Gardening in England'.
In the publisher's original cloth binding with gilt stamped decoration to the front board and spine. Externally, very smart, with only some shelfwear to the tail of the spine and extremities, and light bumping to the head of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with some spotting to the fore edge and margins, not affecting the text.
