Description

Colour Plates, Folding Plates, Illustrated, Leather Binding, Limited Edition, Rebound

This twenty-six volume library set celebrates the work of William Makepeace Thackeray, a satirical writer and illustrator, collecting much of his prolific writings in this beautifully bound centenary edition. William Makepeace Thackeray is now best known for his 'Vanity Fair', despite being ranked behind only Charles Dickens during the Victorian era, writing in the realist tradition rather than the exaggerated and sentimental work of Dickens. Thackeray's biting satire waned after he achieved some celebrity, perhaps losing his zest for attacking the society that now celebrated him. Limited edition: 314 of four hundred and ninety-one registered and numbered copies. This twenty-six volume library set, features both coloured and monochrome illustrations, collated complete; Volume I: Vanity Fair Vol I, Volume II: Vanity Fair Vol II, Volume III: History of Pendennis Vol I, Volume IV: History of Pendennis Vol II, Volume V: The Memoirs of Charles J. Yellowpush, Men's Wives, Character Sketches, Flore Et Zephyr, Volume VI: The Great Hoggarty Diamond, Adventures of Major Gahagan, Notes of a Journey from Cornhill to Grand Cairo, Volume VII: Memoirs of Barry Lyndon, Esq. and The Fatal Boots, Volume VIII: Contributions to 'Punch' Vol I, Volume IX: Contributions to 'Punch' Vol II, Volume X: The History of Henry Esmond, Esq., Volume XI: The Lectures of the English Humourists, The Four Georges and Charity and Humour, Volume XII: The Newcomes Vol I, Volume XIII: The Newcomes Vol II, Volume XIV: The Christmas Books of Mr M. A. Titmarsh, Volume XV: Ballads and The Rose and The Ring, Volume XVI: The Virginians Vol I, Volume XVII: The Virginians Vol II, Volume XVIII: The Adventures of Philip Vol I, Volume XIX: The Adventures of Philip Vol II, Volume XX: Roundabout Papers and The Second Funeral of Napoleon, Volume XXI: Denis Duval, Lovel the Widower, The Wolves and the Lamb, Volume XXII: The Paris Sketch Book and Little Travels and Road-side Sketches, Volume XXIII: The Irish Sketch Book and Critical Reviews, Volume XXIV: Catherine: A Story, The Fitzboodle Papers, Cox’s Diary, The Bedford-Row Conspiracy, and A Legend of the Rhine, Volume XXV: The Knights of Borsellen etc, Volume XXVI: Miscellanies. This beautifully bound limited edition of Thackeray's works celebrates one of Victorian Britain's favourite satirists.
