Bound in half-crushed morocco on cloth boards. 

This is a lovely copy of the first collection of poetry by James Kenneth Stephen. These poems were positively received by the likes of Rudyard Kipling and H. R. Raggard, who had a poem addressed to them which was titled 'To R. K.'

Other poems include 'The Last Ride Together', which is a parody of a poem by Robert Browning, and a parody of Lord Byron titled 'A Grievance'. 

Contents also include a brief introduction on the life of James Kenneth Stephen by H. S. 

James Kenneth Stephen (1859-1892) was an English poet and tutor to Prince Albert Victor, who helped to raise the prince's academic standing before he attended Trinity College, Cambridge. Stephen suffered a serious head injury in 1886, resulting in psychological injury that created severe symptoms witnessed by his cousin Virginia Woolf. He was ultimately committed to a mental asylum, where he spent the rest of his life. 

With an illustrated bookplate to front paste down, belonging to Peter Bennen, and an ink inscription to front free endpaper, which reads 'P. D. B. from A. C. N. 19. V. 1926.'

Collated, complete.

Condition

Bound in half crushed-morocco on cloth boards. Externally, excellent, with just a bit of fading to the spine. Light offsetting to margins of endpapers from leather binding. Illustrated bookplate to front paste down, and ink inscription to recto of front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean throughout.
