A first edition copy of this work. 

With text by Sir Henry Arthur Black and with colour illustrations by Mortimer Menpes, who was an Australian-born British painter, author and illustrator. 

This volume attempts to five a sketch of China, its physical features and manners and customs of the people. 

With sixteen colour plates and sixty four facsimile reproductions in black and white throughout the text.
Collated, complete.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart with some fading to the spine and bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Rear hinge is starting but remains firm. Internally, firmly bound with bright pages with some scattered spots.
