This affectionate work contains a series of short stories documenting the lives of immigrant Jews who lived and worked in London's East End. A personal piece, author Israel Zangwill himself was born there as the son of poor Russian-Polish immigrants.

With a full glossary to the rear of the book. 

Undated, dated from multiple identical copies held institutionally.

Condition

In the original cloth binding. In the publisher's unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, smart. With rubbing and bumping to the extremities and slight fading to the cloth. Dust wrapper is very smart, with a very small chip to the spine and edge wear. Handling marks to the wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with light offsetting and the odd spot to the endpapers only.
