Originally a work by German art historians Oskar Fischel and Max von Boehn, here translated into English for the first time. Featuring tissue-guarded colour frontispieces in each volume and numerous further plates, many coloured, by a wide variety of European artists. Including illustrations in the text. Translated by M. Edwardes. With an introduction by Grace Rhys. Binders stamps of G. P. Button and Co to versos of front free-endpapers. Complete in three volumes.

Condition

In half morocco bindings with marbled boards. Externally sound with some rubbing and marks. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are beautifully bright and clean throughout. A few of the plates are just slightly age-toned and some lightly spotted due to the paper used.
