In two volumes complete. Alexander Pope (1688 - 1744) was an 18th-century English poet, best known for his satirical verse and for his translation of Homer. Famous for his use of the heroic couplet, he is the third-most frequently quoted writer in The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations, after Shakespeare and Tennyson. Emily Morse Symonds (1860 - 1936), known as an author by her pen name George Paston, was a British author and literary critic. Previous owner's ink inscriptions to front.
Condition
In cloth bindings covered with plastic. Externally, sound but with bumping to extremities and the odd mark and plastic covering tipped-in to boards. Two hinges tender. Internally, generally firmly bound although strained in places. Bright but with slight scattered foxing, heaviest to first and last pages and handing marks. With evidence of past institutional labels and stamps to front endpapers.
