Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

A historical novel by Charles Kingsley based on the Preston Somers Expedition and Raleigh's El Dorado Expedition, where a group of Victorian privateers set sail for the New World.

The novel was the inspiration behind the naming of Devon village Westward Ho!, and it was the first novel to be adapted for radio for the BBC. 

Featuring black and white plates by prominent illustrator C. E. Brock.

Condition

In the original publisher's full pictorial cloth binding, with gilt to the edges. Minor shelf wear only, spine and boards only lightly bumped to extremities, minor marks to rear board, light darkening to spine. Prize bookplate to front pastedown dated 1909. Internally, firmly bound. Minor spotting to endpapers, otherwise pages bright and clean. With plates in black and white by C. E. Brock.
