The scarce second edition of this work, which was first published four years prior.

Illustrated with a photographic frontispiece and eight plates, three of which are folding, alongside numerous vignette images, and thirty-one tables, both vignette and full page. Collated, complete.

Beeby Thompson's work offers a 'practical handbook of the exploration, exploitation, and management of Russian oil properties, including notes on the origin of petroleum in Russia, and a description of the theory and practice of liquid fuel'.

He describes work on the oil fields of present day Azerbaijan. The author worked as Chief Mechanical Engineer on the oil fields, and also undertook geological and research work.

With two contemporary pencil inscription to the front pastedown, dated 1909. With the stamp of the New Jersey Central Library to the tail of the title page, with a further stamp to the title page verso. Library number to back strip tail.

Beeby Thompson's achievements were so significant that the foreword to his auto-biography, published in 1961, was written by none other than Herbert Hoover, 31st President of the United States.

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Ink library number to back strip tail. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with losses of cloth. Head of rear joint starting, with board a touch strained. Front joint starting, and slightly tender. Contemporary inscriptions and library marks to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Library stamp to title page tail and verso. Small closed tear to fore edge of title page. Pages otherwise clean and bright.
