An early edition. Rebound in handsome half vellum with gilt detail to the spine. With a beautiful monochrome frontispiece, sixty-three full-page plates and a map. Collated complete. An interesting work regarding the myths of Greece and Rome, including their origin and significance. This work was considered a classic and a staple text for the study of mythology during the twentieth century. Helene Adeline Guerber was an American author best known for her works on myths, legends, folklore and epic poetry. Other notable works by her include, 'Legends of the Rhine', and 'Empresses of France'. The half title page is present. With the previous owner's gift inscription to the half title page, dated 1908.

Condition

Rebound in half vellum. Externally, excellent with little shelf wear. Slight darkening to the spine. The odd light mark to the rear board. Very light offsetting to the upper edge of the free endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean with some light age-toning to the edges. The odd spot to the front blanks and half title page. Previous owner's ink inscription to the half title page.
