A detailed and comprehensive history of the last fight of the Revenge, an English race-built galleon of forty-six guns, built in 1577 and captured by the Spanish in 1591, sinking soon afterwards. This work provides an account of the unsuccessful expedition along the coast of Spain to intercept the Spanish treasure fleet. Written by Sir Walter Raleigh, an English statesman, soldier, writer and explorer considered one of the most notable figures of the Elizabethan era. He played a leading part in English colonisation of North America and helped defend England against the Spanish Armada. With an introduction by Sir Henry John Newbolt, an English poet, novelist and historian. Illustrated by Sir Frank William Brangwyn, a Welsh artist, painter, watercolourist, printmaker, illustrator and designer.

Condition

In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot.
