The first edition of this text. Illustrated, with dozens of plates and vignettes alongside 9 plates of maps and plans. The text regards several individuals and groups of individuals. For example some of those mentioned are George William Evans, John Oxley, Hamilton Hume, Sir Thomas Mitchell, Edward John Eyre and Burke and Wills. Each person hs their expeditions and other life work explained in great detail by Favenc. The editor, Ernest Favenc was an explorer of Australia, a journalist and historian.
Condition
In original brown cloth binding with gilt stamping to the front board. Externally, smart with bumping and rubbing to the extremities and joints. Prior owner's signature to recto of front endpaper, John Rebbechi. Front hinge is slightly strained but firm after front endpapers. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean
