Volume XX (October 1908 - March 1909), and Volume XXVIII (October 1912 - March 1913) of 'The Captain' monthly magazine for boys published in the United Kingdom from 1899 to 1924.
The magazine was perhaps best known for featuring some early stories of P G Wodehouse, English writer and one of the most widely read humourists of the 20th century. These volumes feature six part of his story 'The New Fold' (vol XX), and 'The Eighteen-Carat Kid' (vol XXVIII).
Other contributors include R S Warren Bell, Percy C Bishop, J Sydney Boot, and more.
Featuring numerous illustrations in text.
Condition
In the original publisher's uniform full cloth bindings with titles in gilt and colourful illustration to front board. Externally sound with light shelf wear, light bumping to head and tail of spine and extremities. Damp marking to boards vol. XXVIII. Front free endpaper vol. XXVIII excised. Internally, firmly bound. Light minor spotting to odd leaf, pages otherwise generally very clean throughout with a touch of age toning, as usual with the type of paper used.
