A charming and scarce collection of ten early printings and first editions, specified below, from the 'Chats On' series by T. Fisher Unwin, which provides much information on the history, value, and descriptions of various collectibles and antiques, these books published between 1908 to 1925. A practical guide for collectors.
This group is comprised of Chats on Oriental China by J. F. Blacker; Chats on Old Lace by Mrs. Lowes, the first edition of 1908; Chats on English China by Arthur Hayden; Chats on Autographs by A. M. Broadley, the first edition of 1910; Chats on Jewellery and Trinkets by MacIver Percival, the first edition of 1912; English Earthenware by Arthur Hayden, the first edition of 1909; Chats on Cottage and Farmhouse Furniture by Arthur Hayden, the first edition of 1912, with a chapter on old English Chintzes by Hugh Phillips; Chats on Old Clocks by Arthur Hayden; Chats on Silver by Arthur Hayden; and Chats on Old Furniture by Arthur Hayden.
Each book is embellished with numerous plates and line drawings in text as well as frontispieces, four in colour. Collated, complete, with the frontispiece to 'Cottage and Farmhouse' loose but present.
Condition
In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally very smart with only minor shelf wear and some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. The boards are only slightly soiled and the cloth to the spine has slightly faded to the volumes on 'Oriental China.' The rear joint of 'Old Lace and Needlework' is slightly cracked at the head of the spine. With A C Dundas bookplate to the front pastedown and an illustrated bookplate to the front free endpaper of English Earthenware.' Internally, firmly bound. With some minor light foxing scattered throughout to the earlier volumes, while the pages are generally bright and clean with the odd minor spotting to the later volumes.
