A very smart second impression of this work from Frederick Courtney Selous.

Written in 1908 and dedicated to President Theodore Roosevelt, this work provides a charming study of African Nature.

Selous (1851 – 1917 was British explorer, officer, hunter, and conservationist. He is famous for his exploits in Southeast Africa.

Selous’ real-life adventures inspired Sir Henry Rider Haggard to create the fictional character Allan Qautermain, the protagonist of his 1885 novel, ‘Kind Solomon’s Mines’.

With a forward by Theodore Roosevelt.

Containing 13 illustrations from E. Caldwell, including frontispiece. Collated, complete.

Condition

In half crushed Morocco leather, with cloth boards. Gilt title and decoration to the spine. Externally very smart. Very light edgewear to the extremities. Some rubbing to the spine. Spine slightly faded. Marbled paper to pastedowns and endpapers. Bookplate to front pastedown. Light age-toning to edge of recto of endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
