A striking library set of nine volumes of 'British Sports and Sportsmen'.

Each volume is a limited edition, lavishly illustrated throughout, including frontispieces, plates, and in-text photographs and illustrations.

'British Sports and Sportsmen'  was a commanding series, containing many volumes on a wide variety of sporting subjects. Each volume was an extensive and vivid study into sport, and were popular library acquisitions of the day.

This set includes;

'Sportsmen of the Past' Parts I and II, dated 1908 from Jisc from a copy held at the University of Birmingham Libraries. Limited to one thousand copies, of which this is numbered two-hundred. Part I illustrated with one-hundred and three plates, Part II illustrated with one-hundred and two plates. 

'Hunting', complete in one volume, dated 1912 from Jisc from a copy held at the Durham University Libraries. Limited to one-thousand copies, of which this is numbered eight-hundred and thirteen. Illustrated with a frontispiece, and eleven plates. 

'Shooting and Deerstalking', complete in one volume, dated 1913. Limited to one-thousand copies, of which this is numbered one-hundred and seventy-one. Illustrated with a frontispiece, and sixty-two plates. 

'Big-Game Hunting and Angling', complete in one volume, dated 1914 from Jisc from a copy held at the British Library. Limited to one-thousand copies, of which this is numbered five-hundred and thirty-seven. Illustrated with a frontispiece and seventy-five plates.  

'Cricket and Football', complete in one volume, dated 1917 from Jisc from a copy held at the British Library. Limited to one-thousand copies, of which this is numbered nine-hundred and fifty-seven. Illustrated with a frontispiece and eight plates. 

'Athletic Sports, Tennis, Rackets, and Other Ball Games', dated 1931 from Jisc from a copy held at the University of Birmingham Libraries. Limited to one-thousand copies, of which this is numbered eight hundred and seventy eight. Illustrated with a frontispiece, and nine plates.

'Breeding, Agriculture, Country-Life Pursuits', complete in one volume, dated 1931 from Jisc from a copy held at the University of Reading Library. Limited to one thousand copies, of which this is numbered two-hundred and twenty-three. Illustrated with a frontispiece and eleven plates.

'Gold, Athletics, Tennis, Hockey and Other Ball Games, Winter Sports', complete in one volume, dated 1935 from Jisc from a copy held at the National Trust Libraries.
