Complete in two volumes.

Illustrated with a frontispiece to each volume, and a double-paged map to the rear of Volume II.

Doughty was a noted explorer and adventurer, best known for his travel work about his time in the Arabian desert. 

Over time this work became a touchstone of ambitious travel writing, revered for Doughty's use of language.

T. E. Lawrence rediscovered this work and resulted in the 1920s reprinting.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding, not a uniform binding. Externally, smart. Light bumping to the spines and extremities. Light marks to the boards and spine of Volume I. Some spots to the fore edges. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and clean with some odd spots.
