What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Uncommon

First edition of Whispers from the Fleet by Captain Christopher Cradock in the original publisher's cloth binding with decorative gilt.

This was the senior Royal Navy officer's last book, after becoming captain of the battleship HMS Swiftsure in 1906. Cradock had earned a great reputation for gallantry during his service, and was relieved in 1908.

An insightful autobiography of notes and observations of life in the Royal Navy.

Illustrated with a frontispiece and six monochrome plates, two more than are listed in the list of illustrations. Collated, complete.

Prior owner's ink inscription from 1908 to the first pastedown.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, very smart. There is some minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. The hinges are slightly strained but firm. Prior owner's ink inscription from 1908 to the first pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with the occasional spot.
