The first edition, first impression of this beautifully illustrated work.

Containing five stories for children: 'The Maker of Ghosts and the Maker of Shadows', 'The Stories of Ben the Sailorman' and 'The Mines of Experience' by A E Bonser; 'Harry and Herodotus; or Tales of an Old Traveller' by B. Sidney Woolf, and 'Stories from the Edda' by E S Buchheim. 

The illustrations here originally appeared in Little Folks magazine between 1896 and 1902. 

With a frontispiece and twelve plates from Rackham, and with further vignette illustrations.

With a contemporary inscription, dated Christmas 1907, to the front free endpaper.

A lovely first edition from the famed illustrator, influential during the early twentieth century Golden Age of Illustration, and recognised for his work in the field of children's literature.

Condition

In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Bumping to spine heads and tails, with losses of cloth in these regions, and a further small cloth split to the front joint. Front board lightly bowed. Inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
