Sir Jean Froissart's tale of the Hundred Years' War was originally written in French in the fourteenth century, opening with the events leading up to the deposition of Edward II in 1326 and concluding in 1400. This work was a successful and popular, extensive account of the events in Europe, with particular focus on France, England, and Spain.
The present copy is a later edition, retold for a juvenile audience, edited and abridged by Sidney Lanier and enriched with illustrations by Alfred Kappes.

Condition
Rebound in full calf binding, with five raised bands, gilt tooling to spine, marbled edges and endpapers. With shelf wear and rubbing to spine and extremities, front joint cracked, boards holding firm. Harold A. Wernher's bookplate to front pastedown. Inscribed 'A. P. Wernher, Eton 1909' to recto front blank page. Internally, firmly bound. Light minor spotting to odd leaf, otherwise pages generally bright and clean throughout.
