What Our Customers Say...

Description

Illustrated, Leather Binding

Reprint February, 1907. Originally published November, 1859. Illustrated with frontispiece and five plates. Collated complete. A favourite of the mid-Victorian virtues, rather than relying on others, self-help became an expression of character. In this work, Smiles argues for the removal of major hindrances that prevent the full development of the individual, with an emphasis on the "active" role, stressing self-education. Written by Samuel Smiles, a British author and government reformer who promoted the idea that progress was attributed to new ideas and attitudes rather than new laws.
