The first edition of this work in the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Top edge gilt. Edward Verrall Lucas (1868-1938), an English humorist, writer and editor, edited this collection of poetry for children, as a sequel to 'A Book of Verses for Children'. It comprises of verses on subjects such as the seasons, animals, the sea, humour and geography, by well-known poets such as William Wordsworth, Shakespeare, Robert Louis Stevenson, William Blake and Lord Tennyson. With a engraved colour title page and illustrations throughout by F. D. Bedford.
Condition
In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Externally fairly smart, with some darkening to the spine, continuing to the rear board, and shelf wear to the head and tail of the spine. Both hinges are strained, but are held firmly by cords. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for offsetting and the odd spot to the first and last couple of pages.
