What Our Customers Say...

Description

Colour Plates, Folding Plates, Illustrated, Leather Binding

Complete in four volumes, in uniform half morocco bindings.

The illustrated edition of this popular history of the English people by John Richard Green, originally published in 1874 to tell the history 'not of English Kings and conquests, but of the English People.' Some later printings of this edition. Battles that the author felt did not play a big role in the history of the country were not included, and Green's work was often criticised by other historians for omitting certain historical events.

Edited by the author's wife Alice Stopford Green, historian in her own right, and Kate Norgate. With numerous illustrations in text in black and white, portraits, as well as twenty-six full page colour plates and maps, and four in black and white. One colour folding plan to frontispiece vol. III. Collated, complete with half titles.
