1906 Songs of Innocence
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Colour Plates, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding
The first edition thus, the first edition to feature illustrations by Olive Allen Billier.
With all four colour plates. Collated, complete.
A delightful calf-bound copy of William Blake's 1789 collection, 'Songs of Innocence', 19 poems depicting a pastoral paradise on Earth ('The Ecchoing Green', 'Introduction'), and the dangers to which this sense of idyll can lead ('The Chimney Sweeper', 'The Little Black Boy').
Unusually, this edition does not feature Blake's own illustrations, instead opting for those of Olive Allen Billier, an artist and illustrator who regularly worked for this publisher during the early twentieth century.
