Author's Presentation Copy, First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Scarce, Signed

The scarce first edition.

Signed by the author to his wife, inscribed to the half-title 'To Elsie, from "The Author", May 1906', alongside a touching poem to the verso of the front endpaper, signed by Low and dated from Delhi in December 1905. Signey Low married Elsie Davison in 1887, and they remained married until her death in 1921.

Sidney Low's vivid account of his travels to India alongside the then Prince and Princess of Wales, the future George V and Mary of Teck. 

Low accompanied the tour as the correspondent for the 'Standard'. They toured British India from November 1905 to March 1906, after which George campaigned for a greater involvement of Indians in the government of their country. 

Illustrated with a frontispiece, one map, and thirty plates.

Collated, complete. 

Two pages of adverts to the rear.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Spine is very lightly discoloured. A few minor marks to the boards and spine. MInor bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Author's inscription to the verso of the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with a few scattered spots, including to the fore edge. Author's inscription the half-title.
