The first edition, only printing of this biography in the publisher's original cloth bindings, with armorial device in gilt to the front boards. Library stamps to the half title page of Vol II and the edition pages of Vol I and II. Frontispiece depicting Lord Randolph Churchill and nine further plates, a couple of which are in colour, to Vol I. Frontispiece depicting Lord Randolph Churchill and seven further plates, one of which is a folding plate, to Vol II. This is Winston Churchill's biography of his father Lord Randolph Henry Spencer-Churchill (1849-1895), a radical Conservative politician of great importance in British politics in the 1880s (serving as Chancellor, Leader of the Commons, and Secretary for India). He coined the term 'Tory democracy', created the National Union of the Conservative Party and broke new ground in modern budgetary presentations.
Condition
In publisher's original cloth bindings. Externally smart, with minor rubbing to the extremities and the spine. Spine is a little faded. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with new end papers pasted in to the paste downs.
