Giving an overview of the scenery, culture and political unrest in the region, including the authors first-hand account of the storm of the Gyantse Dzong. Edmund Candler was an English journalist who worked as a correspondent for the Daily Mail. His work predominantly recounts his experiences in colonial India and Asia, and is often compared to the writings of Rudyard Kipling, who was a major influence upon the author.
