George Cavendish was best known for this biography of Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, which is considered to be the sole authentic record of many important historical events.
As well as detailing the political machinations of the time, the biography also offers a detailed portrait of early sixteenth century court life. Cavendish worked under the Cardinal and it is believed that he took notes of Wolsey's conversations and movements for several years before writing the biography between 1554 and 1558.
