An undated copy, dated from Jisc 1905. The first and only edition of this very scarce work.
Sister Cockburn, nurse in the late colonial service in Sierra Leone, proposes a collection of recipes from West Africa and the tropics after spending four years in the areas and being impressed by native cooking skills. With recipes for various soups, such as soup a la cantatrice, cucumber soup, mock turtle soup, sherbro soup; vegetables, such as paw-paw, kohl rabi, mashed pumpkin; entrees and breakfast dishes, including beef biscuits, kidney omelette; sweets and more, with accra wafers, African snowballs, and arrowroot souffle; and more. With a section dedicated to recipes for the invalid.
Condition
In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally sound with some shelf wear and minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. The boards are slightly soiled, with a minor marking to the front. Internally, firmly bound. With a minor faint spotting to the occasional leaf, otherwise the pages are generally very clean throughout.
