Colour Plates, First Edition, Illustrated

The first edition of this work, in the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. All edges gilt. Illustrated paste downs and end papers. 22 plates, 8 colour plates including the frontispiece, and numerous illustrations in the text. Collated complete. The Brown Fairy Book contains stories from the indigenous people of America and Australia, from African Sothos, and from Persia, Lapland, Brazil, and India. It is the ninth volume in Lang's popular series of 25 Fairy Books and is illustrated with delightful engravings by Henry Justice Ford (1860-1941).

Condition

In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Externally smart, with a little bumping to the boards, extremities and head and tail of the spine. Both hinges are tender but still reasonably firm. Internally, the binding is slightly strained throughout. Pages are generally clean, with the odd spot and handling mark.
