The first edition of Volume XXVIII of 'The Strand Magazine', consisting of six consecutive issue from vol. XXVIII, no. 163, July 1904, to vol. XXVIII no. 168, December 1904.
Perhaps most excitingly, these issues contain chapters X to XIII of Arthur Conan Doyle's 'The Return of Sherlock Holmes': 'The Adventure of the Golden Pince-Nez'; 'The Adventure of the Missing Three-Quarter'; 'The Adventure of the Abbey Grange', and 'The Adventure of the Second Stain'.
Illustrated throughout, and featuring contemporary advertisements.
'The Strand Magazine' was a monthly periodical founded in 1891, running across 711 issues until 1950. The magazine is best known for having been the home of the serialised Sherlock Holmes stories.
Condition
In half calf bindings, with marbled paper covered board. Fading to back strip, with rubbing to joints and back strip head and tail, and loss to each of the four leather corners. Hinges starting, with boards holding firm. Inscriptions to head of front free endpaper, and head of title page. Internally, generally firmly bound, with one gathering working loose. Inscription to head of title page. With light handling marks and instances of spotting throughout.
