John Ruskin (1819-1900) was a prominent art critic and historian of the Victorian age, who wrote on a broad scope including art and architecture, philosophy, ornithology, politics and literature, taking forms such as poetry, essays, letters and travel guides. 'The Elements of Drawing' takes the form of three letters addressed to budding artists to create a handy manual to the art of drawing.
In a lovely full calf binding with gilt edges.
Profusely illustrated with vignettes throughout.
Condition
In a full calf binding. Externally generally smart, some wear to the extremities and raised bands. Prize bookplate to the front pastedown dated Easter 1908: someone has tried to remove this, leaving it torn. Internally firmly bound, pages bright and clean.
