First Edition, Illustrated, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding

First Colonial Library edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece and three plates not contained in the first domestic cloth edition. Collated complete. A piece of historical fiction set in the Third Crusade of the twelfth century, featuring important historical figure Saladin as well as the Assassins as characters. Written by Sir Henry Rider Haggard, an English writer of adventure fiction romances set in exotic locations and a pioneer of the lost world literary genre. Publisher's advertisements to the rear, with Cassell's Colonial Library catalogue to the front and rear dated June 1904. The first edition of this work was dated September 1904.

Condition

In the original red cloth binding. Externally, smart with rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and board edges. Rear hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd spot. Further spotting and light age toning to the endpapers. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper.
