Helena Saville Faucit, Lady Martin (1817-1898) was a Victorian actress remembered for her numerous depictions of Shakespearean women, including Juliet, Lady Macbeth, Hermione from 'The Winter's Tale', Beatrice from 'Much Ado About Nothing' and Cordelia from 'King Lear'.

With a frontispiece illustration of the author.

With essays on Ophelia, Portia, Desdemona, Juliet, Imogen, Rosalind, Beatrice and Hermione.

Condition

In a full calf fine binding, with a gilt school emblem to the front board and detail to the spine. Externally generally smart, a touch of rubbing to the head of the spine and extremities resulting in a touch of loss to the leather; joint to the front board has a small crack beginning. Internally firmly bound, pages are generally bright and clean with occasional instances of spotting.
