Very Scarce.

The illustrated account of the magnificent coronation of King Edward VII, Emperor of India. This important event was celebrated at Delhi Durbar ('the Court of Delhi'), an Indian imperial-style assembly at Coronation Park, India, organised by the British to mark the succession of Emperor or Empress of India. It was held three times; in 1877, in 1903, and in 1911. 

King Edward VII's Delhi Durbar took place in December 1902 and the celebrations ended in January 1903, with the main event taking place on New Year's Eve. the scale of the event was one of the biggest ever attempted. The Viceroy's own camp included almost 3,000 people, and accommodation was provided for almost 150,000 guests. This volume details the whole event, with photographs and maps. 

Condition

In the publisher's original red cloth binding, with decorations in gilt to front and rear board as well as titles to spine. Externally charming, with minor shelfwear and slight bumping to head and tail of spine and extremities. Slight rubbing to spine and joints. Spine is slightly faded. Previous owner's bookplate to front pastedown Sir Benjamin Franklin. Internally, binding is slightly loosening but still firm. Faint scattered spotting throughout. With frontispiece and forty-seven illustrations and five maps.
