Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

First edition of Fetichism in West Africa, Forty Years of Observation of Native Customs and Superstitions by Robert Hamill Nassau.

Illustrated with twelve monochrome plates and a map of the West African Coast. Collated, complete.

Robert Hamill Nassau was a British missionary for over forty years.

Newspaper clippings attached to the first free endpapers and prior owner's book plate to the first pastedown. Prior owner's ink inscription from 1905 to the title page.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. There is some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. There is slight evidence of what may have been a circulating library plate or similar to the front board. The hinges are strained. Prior owner's book plate to the first pastedown and newspaper clippings attached to the first free endpapers. Prior owner's ink inscription from 1905 to the title page. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with the occasional spot.
