The uncommon first edition. Beautifully bound in green half morocco with pictorial gilt detail to the spine. Bound by Maltbys of Oxford. With a photographic frontispiece and twenty-two plates. Alongside the half title page and sixteen pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear of the book. Collated complete. A detailed guide to English forestry, with the opinions and impressions of an experienced forester. With sections on the history of English forests, different tree varieties, planting and regeneration, timber felling and woodland pests. Arthur Charles Forbes was an English forestry expert and lecturer. He became the first Director of Forestry in the Republic of Ireland and served as Timber Controller during the First World War. With a bookplate for one, 'Peter M. Scott', to the front paste-down and the previous owner's ink signature, reading 'J. H. A. Whitley' to the front blank.

In half morocco binding. Externally, excellent with little shelf wear. Bookplate to the front paste-down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean. Scattered spots and handling marks throughout. Pages lightly age-toned.
