The first edition of this beautiful volume comprising one-hundred illustrations by Mortimer Menpes, and descriptions Dorothy Menpes. First published in 1903 simultaneously to a limited deluxe edition.

This book contains impressions that the pair had of children from different countries as they travelled around the world, discussing the attitudes towards them and their role in society. 

Complete with frontispiece and one-hundred coloured illustrations. Plate of 'Phoebe', England to face p.8 and 'Market Day,' Brittany to p.78 loose but present.

Condition

In the original publisher's decorative cloth binding. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear only, lightly bumped to head and tail of spine and extremities, back strip faded. Internally, firmly bound. Light minor spotting to fore edge affecting only odd leaf. Pages otherwise generally bright and clean.
