'The Venture' was a short-lived literary journal, issued for only 1903 and 1905. Edited by Laurence Housman and W. Somerset Maugham, it was comprised of short stories and poetry from prominent authors of the time.
This particular issue contains twenty-two works from authors including John Masefield, G. K. Chesterton, Thomas Hardy, A. E. Housman, and many others.
With captivating illustrations from artists including Charles S. Ricketts, Lucien Pissarro, Laurence Housman, T. Sturge Moore, and many others. Containing fourteen plates and a colour frontispiece. Collated, complete.
With a signature of 'Cunard' to the verso of the frontispiece, possible that of British heiress and activist, Nancy Cunard.
Condition
Bound in the publisher's original cloth-backed boards, with a pictorial design to the front cover. Externally, slightly worn, with damp staining to boards, heavier to the rear. Bumping to the extremities and spine, with a tear to the head of the spine. Small amount of loss to the front board and to the extremities. Hinges are strained, with cords visible. Light marks to endpapers. Internally, binding is tender in places. Pages are bright, with just a few spots to the first and last pages.
