The second edition of this work. In a signed binding by Relfe Brothers. A selection of thirteen stories from Froissart's 'Chronicles' for children. 'Chronicles' are a collection of stories about the Hundred Years' War, starting with the events leading up to the deposition of Edward II, looking at the period up to 1400, recounting prominent events in western Europe. Containing 'The Battle of Sluys', 'The Battle of Cressy', 'The Siege of Calais', 'The Battle of Les Espagnols-Sur-Mer', 'The Battle of Poitiers', 'The Journey of Sir John Froissart', and more. Illustrated with sixteen plates and numerous in-text illustrations. Froissart was a medieval author and court historical in the fourteenth century. He is best known for this work, and for 'Melidor', an Arthurian romance'. Translated and compiled by Henry Newbolt. Newbolt was a poet and historian, who was also powerful in government as an adviser. Illustrated by Gordon Browne. Browne was a children's book illustrator who illustrated works by E. In a full calf signed binding. Externally, smart. Light fading to the spine. Very minor marks to the boards. Label to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with only the occasional light spot mostly to the first and last few pages.
