What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Scarce
The first edition of Great Benin, It's Customs, Art and Horrors by H. Ling Roth in the original publisher's cloth binding.
A scarce edition, with only twenty held in libraries. One of only three hundred and twenty copies printed. The publisher did not publish any contemporary or cheaper copies of the work, making this first edition particularly desirable.
Densely illustrated throughout with many in text drawings and monochrome photographs. Includes a monochrome plate as the frontispiece. Collated, complete.
Roth was an anthropologist and museum curator of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, sound. There is some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. There is some loss to the spine and it is faded. There are marks to the boards. The hinges are strained but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with the occasional spot.
