The illustrations to this volume are from photographs taken by J T Newman. Any drawings to this volume are by Arthur Martin. Both volumes are written in a 'plain and unvarnished' (preface) style from Westell's original diary and notes. He discusses birds, mammals, butterflies, insects, fishes, trees flowers and more. Both works form a Natural History Calendar as they are presented in a month-by-month format.
