First edition, uncommon. Illustrations include a frontispiece. nine black-and-white illustrated plates, one vivid colour plate, and one in-text illustration. Ink inscription from author on front endpaper, which reads, 'To ... William Fortt Booth with Compliments from Charles Thomas- Stanford.' dated at 'Preston Manor, 6 Oct 1910'. 'A River of Norway' is a travel work from Charles Thomas-Stanford, in which the author describes his time exploring Norway alongside his experience fishing there. Contents include descriptions of the river of Gaula, anecdotes on fishing for salmon, and memories of the landscape and the author's neighbours. Charles Thomas-Stanford (1858-1932) was a British Conservative Party politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1914 to 1922. Forty pages of publisher's adverts to rear. Collated, complete.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Some fading and wear to extremities as well as along front joint, but otherwise cloth is bright. A bit of bumping to spine. Author's ink inscription on front endpaper. Paste downs are very lightly age-toned. Internally, firmly bound, with the binding loosening towards middle of text. Pages are very bright and generally clean, with a few scattered spots, particularly to the first and last few pages. Tissue guard facing frontispiece is coming loose from binding. Plates are bright and clean.
