The first edition of this work. Complete in six volumes. Volume I, published in 1903, illustrated with forty-two plates, one of which is folding, and sixteen of which are double-paged. Collated, complete. Volume II, published in 1906, illustrated with forty-seven plates, nineteen of which are double-paged. Collated, complete. Volume III, published in 1905, illustrated with forty plates, eighteen of which are double-paged. Collated, complete. Each tomb reflects the personality and patronage of the tomb's owner/ This work discusses the tombs of Meryra, a seer of Aten in Akhenaten, Parannefer, the cupbearer of the King's person, Tutu, a chamberlain of the Lords of the Two Lands, Ay, a Fanbearer on the right of the King and commander of the horses, Penthu, the first servant of the Aten in the mansion of the Aten in Akhetaten, Mahu, the Chief of the Medjay, Huya, the steward of Queen Tiye, Ahmes, the sealbearer of the King of Lower Egypt, Panehsy, the first servant of the Aten in the house of Aten in Akhetaten, as well as looking at some smaller tombs and boundary stelae. Written by Norman and Nina de Garis Davies, a married couple who published works together under the name 'N. de Garis Davies'. The Garis Davies were illustrators and copyists, working on drawing and recording paintings in Egypt.

Condition

In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding with paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart. Front boards of Volumes I and II are tidemarked, with loss of paper to the front board of Volume I, and some cockling to the front board of Volume II. A small amount of lifting to the rear board of Volume II, due to the tidemarking. Light marks to the boards and spines. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities. A little heavier bumping to the extremities of Volume VI. Tidemark to the pastedowns and endpapers of Volume II. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with only the odd light spot. Tidemark to the first and last few pages of Volume II.
