George Eliot, real name Mary Ann Evans, was known for her realism, sense of place and detailed depiction of the countryside.
As well as her seven novels, this set also comprises of Eliot's collection of three short stories in Vol V (her first published work of fiction), her collection of poems in Vol XI and her thoughts on the philosopher Theophrastus in Vol X.
Condition
In half calf bindings with gilt detailing to spines. Externally, all very smart with slight rubbing and bumping to the extremities, heaviest to the joints. Light markings to the boards, most noticeable to the boards of Middlemarch and The Spanish Gypsy. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with odd spotting to the fore edges.
