What Our Customers Say...

Description

Colour Plates, First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

A comprehensive and fascinating travel work containing a first-hand account of Major Hesketh Hesketh-Prichard's journey through Patagonia and southern South America. This was one of many of Hesketh-Prichard's explorative trips financed by Cyril Arthur Pearson.

Hesketh-Prichard was commissioned to travel to Patagonia in the early twentieth century by Pearson with the express purpose of determining whether or not the rumours of the prehistoric Mylodon in this area were true. Once Hesketh-Prichard determined that there was in fact no evidence of the existence of the Mylodon in Patagonia, he used the remainder of the trip to explore the forests of the Andes.

The first edition of this work.

Illustrated with six plates in colour, four photogravure plates, thirty full page plates in black-and-white, three folding maps in colour, and numerous in-text illustrations.

Collated and complete.

Illustrations by noted British artist and naturalist John Guille Millais.

Condition

In the publisher's original red cloth binding. Externally, smart, with light shelf wear and bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Internally, binding is just slightly tender in a few places. Light spotting to the first and last few pages, and in a few places throughout (particularly to the folding maps), otherwise pages remain bright and clean.
