Unnumbered limitation. Originally published in 1873 under title Studies in the History of the Renaissance. 

In a beautiful full Hatchards morocco binding with decorative gilt tooling. This binding is not signed but is the standard deluxe binding for this work which was by Hatchards. 

Containing studies of Renaissance art and poetry by Walter Pater, who is often regarded as one of the great stylists of the nineteenth century. 

Studies featured as some of Sandro Botticelli, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Joachim du Bellay, &c. 

Illustrated with a frontispiece.

Condition

Rebound in full morocco binding with five raised bands, gilt tooling to spine and boards, gilt to edges, renewed endpapers. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear, light rubbing to spine and joints. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
