Leather Binding, Rebound

The famous maxims by François de La Rochefoucauld, noted French moralist and author of maxims and memoirs from the seventeenth century. This work was originally published in French in 1665, and established his position among the men of letters of the time. 

With text both in French and English. 

From the library of Luton Hoo, mansion famous for hosting grand events and people including Queen Elizabeth II and Winston Churchill.

Condition

Rebound in full morocco binding with gilt tooling to boards and spine, five raised bands, gilt to edges, renewed endpapers. Externally sound with minor shelf wear, light rubbing to joints and extremities of boards. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting to first few leaves, otherwise pages bright and clean. Printed on hand-made paper.
