The second edition of this early twentieth century Christmas themed children's work from Mary Louisa Molesworth, who wrote a large number of tales for children under the name Mrs. Molesworth. In contemporary publications, Molesworth was referred to as 'the Jane Austen of the nursery'.

With an engraved title page and further illustrations from celebrated artist Walter Crane, a notable figure of the Arts and Crafts movement, and producer of paintings, illustrations, children's books, ceramic tiles and wallpapers. A pioneer in art education for the young, he is also remembered for his creation of various iconic images associated with the Socialist movement of the day.

With a contemporary inscription to front free endpaper, and the blind stamp of Neatham Mill Library to the rear free endpaper. No further library markings.

Condition

In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Fading to back strip and rear board perimeters. Bumping to spine head and tail. Mark to centre of front joint. Former owner's inscription to front free endpaper, library blind stamp to rear free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
